Department of Computer Science Conducted the State Level Workshop on BOSS

Information and knowledge are considered to be the key factors for development of a society. Our PG Department of Computer Science has that goal from the mission of our College to lift up the underprivileged students. In this way our Department has conducted one State Level Workshop on BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solutions) in commemoration of our college’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on 10th January 2015.

BOSS is a GNU/Linux distribution developed by C-DAC with support from NRCFOSS at Chennai for enhancing the use of Free/Open Source Software in the country. Made specifically for the Indian environment and localized in the respective regional languages, it is a Govt. of India’s initiative towards equipping common people with the benefits of computer technology as a free & opensource operating system. Currently BOSS can process 9 Indian languages- Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu in various text editors such as gedit, Open-Office, Abi-Word, Yudit. Currently our Government insisted to use BOSS in all Government Institutions.

The One day workshop equipped by renowned dignitaries, speakers and trainers from FSFTN (Free Software Foundation of Tamilnadu). Mr. A. Alagunambi Welkin, CEO, UD Products, EC Member, FSFTN has delivered valuable talk & focused the theme of the BOSS and its applications. Another trainer from FSFTN, Mr. Raaj Anand assisted the session for effective practical session.

Spread over the day, the event had an inaugural session with the presidential address of our beloved Principal followed by technical speech and a workshop. There has been a practical session for getting familiar with usage of BOSS and hands-on-session on the commands. At the end of the session certificates were issued to the participants of our college and other city college students by the Head of the department as a sign of felicitation and appreciation.
